Drywall Removal

Drywall Removal Services in the Lower Mainland

Drywall is used to create walls for residential and commercial properties. It is the preferred choice for contractors, as it is affordable and easy to install.

Many drywall installers don’t handle the drywall removal and disposal, as it is time-consuming to sort and expensive to recycle. With millions of tons of drywall produced and installed every year, it’s unfortunate that only a small amount of it ends up being recycled.

What is Drywall?

Drywall is a common material used in construction applications that is primarily made out of gypsum, among other materials. Gypsum is a naturally occurring substance that consists of calcium sulfate and water.

Drywall has many benefits:

  • Faster to build
  • Easy to repair
  • Fire resistant properties
  • Various sizes from 4 to 12 feet in length
  • Recyclable

Why should Drywall be Recycled?

Drywall is largely recyclable, therefore it’s very important to ensure the drywall waste you are left with after a construction project doesn’t end up in a landfill. When drywall gets wet, the sulfates will slowly move into the draining water. This is dangerous for anyone who may come in contact with this water. Under certain conditions, gypsum is also known to produce hydrogen sulfite and sulfur dioxide gas. This gas is unpleasant and very toxic.

Drywall removal and recycling is not only better for the environment, but it also has some economic value. It can be ground into a fine powder and repurposed into pellets. The pellets are then sold to different manufacturers who will use it to make products, such as new drywall.
